Things I need to know

Content Aggregator

It is possible for an organisation such as a school to install its own blog server (there are kits that can be downloaded free of charge from the internet) and thus provide blogspace for its own community.

It is also essential that pupils are taught safe and sensible behaviours when using weblogs, whether as an author or as a reader, both in the school setting or via personal weblogs outside of the school environment. This would include ensuring that you don’t reveal information which can personally identify you, ensuring that you don’t make derogatory or libellous statements about others, and ensuring that you don’t infringe the intellectual property rights of others

The Guardian weblog guide gives an overview of weblogs, and provides links to the best journalistic weblogs online.

Blogging..... why on googleearth?....

Is it me ? Well obviously!! Do you know this blogging business? I can see why it appeals to teenagers ...its like writing a diary without the lock.... everyone can read it and maybe that's the flip side of the excitement instead of it being very secret its very very open. But on a day to day basis would I bother... ermm...... no... I'm not the diary keeping type.
Now. Educational use. Would I like the children in my class to keep a blog e.g using the easy set up in Bebo? .....Ermmm... No. I worry that they would, at the very least, receive unwanted attention from un savoury types or arghh.. imagine, they put in their details by mistake and were contacted and...... doesn't bear thinking about really.
I can see the point of the whole social software scene if its part of an online group or project but setting up a blog for a blogs sake just seems a daft thing to do. Do I honestly believe that in the vast arena of the internet that someone is actually going to find and read this? No I think not. Not unless I tell them wherre it is. I bet I could give my boss a challenge of finding this blog and he never would. So I think that the people who create blogs are actually a bit self obsessed...well I've made one:) I don't think you need a blog to be part of the social software scene I just think you need to take part in ones where the people who actually start them off have something to give or say. If all of us minions do it as well the whole thing just gets too crowded and we'll never find the goodstuff.
I also worry about the safety aspect. How do you manage to keep your identity safe? Putting your picture on isn't a partic good idea. but most children and adults will since there is a picture tool available...aaaargh.
Please leave me your comments I'd love to know more and alos let me know your fav. blog sites so that i can see good ones in action.
